Evidence of a city or town’s heritage is often held in its buildings, and visiting historical spaces can be a great way to learn about a city’s past. Built in 1912, beautiful Lyric Theatre is one of the oldest heritage buildings in Swift Current and definitely worth checking out on your visit.

The Lyric Theatre has a long and rich history and one that tells us a lot about the way our entertainment tastes have changed throughout the decades. The theatre was originally constructed for vaudeville shows and silent movies back in the early decades of the twentieth century. In the 1950’s the Lyric became a popular local movie theatre. It operated this way until 1980 when it was turned into a nightclub.

Today it’s a premiere cultural space in the Swift Current community. On any given night, you can catch an orchestral concert, an open mic night or a live improv show at the Lyric.

The events slated this winter show the diverse kinds of entertainment offerings that you can see at the Lyric. Write out Loud is an ongoing series of readings by celebrated Canadian writers. On November 21st the Lyric is inviting Dwayne Brenna, author of New Albion, to its stage.

Later in November, you can see alternative rockers the Treble in concert. Hailing from Winnipeg, the Treble has become one of the hottest acts in the Canadian music scene with their rousing, melodic songs. They will take the stage at the Lyric on November 30th.

Home Inn and Suites Swift Current is located just a short drive away from The Lyric theatre and all the other interesting historic sites and restaurants in our lovely city.
