The wide open skies of the Canadian prairies are absolutely gorgeous. Any time you visit you can find a nice, sunny place in the grass of a field, lie back and stare into forever.

There’s not much you can do improve such a spectacle, but one way to do it is with hundreds of colourful kites! The great prairie winds make it easy to send kites soaring up into the air, transforming a summer day into a cherished memory.

That’s the whole purpose of the Windscape Kite Festival which happens every year in Swift Current. Sponsored by SaskPower, this is a testament to the power of wind! Watch dozens of internationally renowned kite flyers show you the best, take part in fun family activities including face painting, games, crafts and more! Takes Place June 22 and 23, don’t miss out!

Take the kids out to the Windscape Kite Festival during the day, and then stick around for the Long Day’s Night Music Festival! This four-day event takes place from June 20 to 23 with different concerts every night!

On June 20th, catch the high-octane rockabilly of The Reverend Horton Heat has been blowing minds with his revved-up sound since the 90s. If you’ve never watched the Rev’s bassist Jimbo surf his own stand-up bass you’re REALLY missing out. June 21 features the international festival fun of Delhi 2 Dublin while the 22nd Canada’s rock and roll dynasty act The Sadies will TEAR up the stage (seriously – if you love guitar rock and don’t know the Sadies your life is about to change). Then on the 23 stick around for indie band cool with Shred Kelly! Whether you catch one concert or all four, this is a great chance to see amazing live music in an intimate setting.

But seriously, do see The Sadies. You can thank us later.

There’s a whole lot of wonder in the skies of Swift Current. If you do think you’re due for a visit, let us know at the Home Inn & Suites Swift Current. Bringing the kids for Windscape? They’ll love our indoor pool with waterslide while you’ll enjoy the whirlpool hot tub.
