There is no time in Swift Current quite like the fall. During October, the leaves on the trees change, giving way to a stunning canvas of red, yellow, and orange. In our opinion, the best way to take advantage of this breathtaking scenery is to get outdoors. That is why we always recommend that our guests visit the Chinook Parkway in Swift Current.

A Scenic 15 Kilometre Trail

Chinook Parkway is hands down one of the best outdoor parks in Swift Current. The entire park spans 15.8 kilometres, or 9.8 miles, and is open year round. It is suitable for hikers of all levels and dogs are welcome, so long as they remain on a leash.

Hiking, Cycling, Bird Watching, and More

The Chinook Parkway runs along Swift Current Creek and includes multiple trails for walking, jogging, and cycling. It also happens to be a great spot for bird watching owing to the many native species that live here. Bird watchers should keep their eyes and ears peeled for all kinds of songbirds and waterfowl, including the Gray Catbird, Yellow-headed Blackbird, and the Blue-winged Teal. The flora at Chinook Parkway is just as impressive as the fauna, given that the park is home to over 60 different species of wildflowers. Be on the lookout for everything from cattails and prickly pear cactus to wild licorice.

Riverside Park

The trail concludes at Riverside Park, which is the perfect spot for a picnic on a warm fall afternoon. Riverside Park also happens to be one of the largest and best equipped parks in all of Swift Current. It has plenty of different athletic and recreational facilities, such as a soccer/football field, a 400 metre oval running track, a playground, six tennis courts, and three pickleball courts. In the summer months, you’ll also notice a splash pad and an ice cream shack.

If you plan on visiting Swift Current, Saskatchewan this fall, then be sure to book a room at the Home Inn & Suites Swift Current. An unbeatable location, comfortable accommodation, and family-friendly amenities await, not to mention the fact that we’re only a short distance away from the scenic Chinook Parkway.
